South Central Bank, N.A. is very pleased to announce that Kayleah Ortiz was recently selected as a recipient of a $500 scholarship by the Community Bankers Association of Illinois (CBAI) Foundation for Community Banking. South Central Bank sponsored Kayleah in the contest.
Her essay on the topic of “The Importance of Community Banking” was selected as the second-place winner in the bank’s CBAI group by a panel of judges in a blind-judging format. Now in its 30th year, the program awards up to $23,000 to high school seniors via an essay-writing contest. This year, 112 CBIA member banks representing 282 students statewide, participated in the contest.
Kayleah graduated from Luther North College Prep in June 2016, and plans to study Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Butler University in the fall.
The CBAI Foundation for Community Banking offers 16 scholarships to top Illinois high-school seniors statewide each year. Rising seniors interested in participating in next year’s competition can apply through the bank once the deadlines and essay topic are announced.
