History

South Central Bank was established in 1966 as a community bank servicing the near-south-side area of Chicago, a primarily commercial district. In 1966, after urban renewal changed the original home area of the bank, commercial and personal banking services needed to be re-established in the new community.

The near south side of Chicago is now one of the fastest growing residential areas in Chicago. Convenience shopping, including major food stores and retailers, are new and add to the array of unique and special retail stores which characterized this area for many years.

The bank has grown beyond a single community bank and opened a new headquarters in 2000 to service its original neighborhood. There are now five locations in the Near South Loop, West Loop, Chinatown, Bridgeport and West Town.

We are commercial bankers for over a thousand businesses throughout the Chicago metropolitan area, including Chicago neighborhoods and suburbs. As a vital member of the business community, we provide the best in business service, offering assistance for every business need. Our lending programs for local qualified businesses meet and exceed our competitors’ programs and commercial lenders are available to help with all your business credit needs. In 2005 we became one of the first banks anywhere to extensively use remote capture, and hundreds of our businesses use our I-CAPTURE product to clear checks efficiently from their own office.

South Central Bank was one of the first Small Business Administration Preferred Lenders, enabling the bank to make SBA 7A small business loans throughout northern Illinois.

South Central Bank is also one of the leading home improvement lenders in the Midwest, servicing home improvement contractors and their consumer customers in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Kansas and Tennessee. The bank is the leading provider of HUD/FHA Title 1 home improvement financing in Illinois and adjoining states and assisted in the legislative process in the U.S. Congress to foster responsible home improvement lending programs throughout the United States.
